Talked to Cay's school today, and there were far too many numbers in the "charges" section and far too few in the "credits" section when we sat down and looked at her tuition and other charges. She did get 50% off her tuition with a Talent Scholarship, will get a large Pell grant, and will be eligible for student loans, but will still fall about 6-10K short, depending on her loans. And of course, she immediately burst into tears, because it's the room and board that puts her over.
Sooo... she's staying home. Only we're moving where home is... to Santa Fe... so she can go to her first choice school.
I'm now eligible for portable section 8, so I can take my grant to any city in the nation. It shouldn't be too hard moving 90 miles away.
I've identified a possible apartment, and/or a possible complex to live in that meets Section 8 criteria, and unlike Silver Gardens here in town, it takes pets. Added bonus: Walking distance to the plaza with the Smiths, PetCo, and Staples, as well as close to the bus to Trader Joes and Whole Foods. And it's also near the Jambo Cafe... which is going to be a terrible temptation.
I won't be spending as much time at the zoo, but will work Saturdays while Cay is in class at the zoo, and I'll do trips still. I'll have to give up the position I'm being offered with Prairie Dog Pals. But we can do this. It's important.
I opened up my Google Reader for the first time in MONTHS (I decided to do some organization there today. Like housecleaning, it is a big task!!).
ReplyDeleteThis post was the first one in my line up for family & friends. SANTA FE!!! That is so cool. I can really picture you there, and I hope that the move will go well, that an apartment is there, waiting just for you. I cannot wait to see some Dorid Photos from there. :)
Be well, my friend!
xx

OK... so I guess I already published this post ;)
ReplyDeleteI was so scrambled last night with everything hitting me at once I didn't know which end is up.
I already have quite a few photos from visits to Santa Fe, and I do the Santa Fe run with the Zoo to You van quite often. If you go to The Radula and, in the search bar on my blog type "Santa Fe", you should get a LOAD of photos.
I've got a lot of skepticism about this move. After sleeping on it I kinda think I'm going to miss the independence I would have had if Cay moves out on her own. On the other hand, Cay is the more social of the two, and we do have a good time together.
We'll see what happens.
